- The Hamas-run interior ministry said a drone strike killed five police officers aged 23 to 53 in Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis, and named them
- The Israeli military said it targeted military operatives in two attacks, without providing evidence or further detail
- Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry, whose figures the UN considers reliable, says 1,580 people have been killed since the October 2025 ceasefire
What hospitals reported in Gaza City and Khan Younis
Hospital officials in Gaza City said a missile struck a group of civilians beside Cairo School in the Al-Rimal neighbourhood, killing three people, among them a four-year-old boy. Video outside Shifa Hospital showed men praying next to two body bags and the child's body, wrapped in a white towel. A relative told AFP the family had been sitting in a tent when the missile hit.
In Khan Younis, the Hamas-run ministry of interior said a drone attack targeted police officers carrying out routine duties in the Al-Mawasi area, killing five. The ministry named the officers, aged between 23 and 53, and described the strike as a massacre. Video from Nasser hospital showed body bags on the floor.
Ceasefire in force, strikes continuing
The Israeli military said it carried out two attacks on what it called military operatives but has not provided evidence or further information. BBC News reports that a ceasefire took effect in Gaza in October last year, yet Israeli air strikes have continued almost every day since.
Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry says 1,580 people have been killed since the ceasefire and 74,594 since the war began; the UN considers its figures reliable. Israel says it targets Hamas, though civilians are often killed too. The ceasefire involved the release of thousands of Palestinians held by Israel in exchange for the 48 remaining hostages, alongside an agreement to end the war. A Gaza peace plan brokered by the Trump administration has stalled, the BBC reports. The war was triggered by the Hamas-led attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 taken hostage.
