Kuala Lumpur talks
The president of Brazil's Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Marcio Pochmann, met Brazil's ambassador to Malaysia, Daniella Menezes, at the Brazilian diplomatic mission in Kuala Lumpur. The institute said the talks covered IBGE's presence in Malaysia and the strengthening of technical cooperation.
Pochmann also met Malaysia's Department of Statistics (DOSM). The discussions addressed cooperation opportunities in digital transformation and new indicators from a Global South perspective, including countries that host tropical forests.
Indicator debate
IBGE took part in the Global Tipping Points Conference 2026, held in Kuala Lumpur from October 12 to 15. Its participation focused on a panel about building a Life Flourishing Index, described as opening an international discussion on new ways to measure development and welfare.
According to IBGE, the agenda gains relevance as Global South countries seek a larger role in defining concepts, methodologies and priorities for international data production. Pochmann said Brazil and other Global South countries should take part in defining measurements of human development.
